The GUKPT Grand Final in Luton has reached its business close, with £1,500 high rollers handling the final hand as excitement begins to build for the £1,250 GUKPT Grand Final Main Event at the Grosvenor G Casino in Park Street West .
Keith Johnson put in another outstanding performance to claim his second major title of 2024, taking home £46,420 after emerging victorious from a field of 104 entries for the High Roller. Johnson battled his way through a highly competitive final table with a heads-up win over Mukhtar Ahmed, winning the bulk of his £149,760 prize pool and pushing his annual live tournament earnings to more than $300,000.
Once the high rollers concluded, the main event also began with the first of three starting flights, bringing together a diverse and talented group of players ready to compete for a share of the guaranteed prize pool of £250,000.

Final day action
Sixteen players took part in the final day of the biggest buy-in event at GUKPT Grand Finals, but it was a tough battle from the start, with only the top 11 guaranteed prize money.
The first elimination of the day took four and a half hours, with Sandeep Shah reaching the rail first. Several notable players did not win prize money, including Kevin Allen. Among them were GUKPT Blackpool High Roller Champion Jamie Dale and GUKPT Grand Final Midi Main winner Yucel Eminoglu.
Sachin Joshi was the unlucky bubble boy when he dropped a pocket eight into Andrew Hulme's king ten after some tense bubble play.
The first athlete to claim the prize money was Kairat Tulariev, who finished 11th and won £3,440. Shortly after, 2023 GOLIATH Champion Alex Todd finished in 10th place, setting the stage for the final table.

Grosvenor National Poker League leader Matt Davenport took Dan Ladd's ace lag with a big slick to claim his first final table scalp. Davenport kept the pressure on and immediately eliminated Preben Stockan with a classic preflop coin flip.
Ian Bosley looked poised for a much-needed double-up with Ace-King, but his shot hit a pocket rocket from Ahmed, reducing the field to six men. Ahmed further increased his chip count by defeating Harum. Even after Hulme moved all in on his second pair with the J-9-2 flop, his top pair remained solid.
Lorenc Bochi increased his stack by eliminating Tamer Kamel, who was unable to break through Bochi's pocket queens with jack nines. Kamel walked away with his first five-figure salary from the event. However, Boci's momentum stalled as he lost his stack to eventual champion Johnson.
A heads-up play was set up after Davenport was sent off at third. Johnson then had kings and deuces paired on the board, defeating Ahmed's ace-jack to seal the victory and claim the title.

The £250,000 guaranteed GUKPT Grand Final Main Event began in style as the high rollers unfolded. Day 1a attracted 96 entries, but only 26 players made it past the first hurdle of stacking up their chips for Saturday's Day 2. Among the advancing field were several seasoned grinders ready to chase the coveted title.
French duo Vincent Merry and Antoine Labatt completed the opening flight, while former professional footballer Steve Watts also secured a spot on the second day.
Adding further star power to the field, Maria Lampropoulos continued her impressive run on British soil. Fresh off her win in the Women's Winter Festival Main Event last weekend, Lampropoulos is in the top 10 by chip count and clearly a force to be reckoned with.
A female champion who has yet to make her mark on GUKPT Main Event history. This season, Katie Swift and Sinead Davenport were close but not as good. Now Lampropoulos aims to make history again. However, she will have competition from Linda Nguyen, who came out on top as the only player to surpass the 200,000 mark on Day 1a's chip count and took the overnight chip lead.
Days 1b and 1c will take place on Friday, November 29th, and the final GUKPT Champion of 2024 will be crowned on Sunday.
