The Atlantic City casino industry supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a variety of events and promotions to raise awareness and encourage early detection of breast cancer.
Throughout October, the casino industry will host fundraising events, mobile on-site mammography screenings for team members, and participate in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Walk, which promotes early detection, education, and support services for women.
Mark Giannantonio, president of the New Jersey Casino Association, said the industry is happy to do its part.
“Every year, the casino industry comes together to support a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts,” he said. “Breast cancer is a disease that affects us all, and thanks to advances in medicine and research supported by fundraising, treatment options are improving and survival rates are increasing. This awareness campaign will save lives. We are honored to be a part of it.”
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, more than 360,000 people are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024. However, with advances in early detection methods and support, the chances of survival are increasing. If detected at an early localized stage, the five-year relative survival rate for breast cancer is 99%.
During the month of October, guests will notice that Atlantic City casinos will be bathed in pink lighting in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Whether it's selling pink drinks with proceeds going to breast cancer awareness or participating in fundraisers, the entire casino industry is coming together to support this important cause.
Here are just a few of the many activities and promotions.
